In central Texas, our garages can get pretty hot during the summer months. Since most homes don’t have a climate-controlled garage, even if the garage is attached to your home, you can run your AC system all day long and it won’t affect the temperature in your garage.
There are several ways you can cool your garage during the long hot summer.
Use a Mini-Split AC System
You can keep your garage cool during the summer by using a mini-split AC system. It’s an effective way to cool small indoor spaces, including garages. Mini-split AC systems are small, compact AC systems that are devoid of ductwork.
Install a Swamp Cooler
A swamp cooler is another cooling solution for garages. Swamp coolers are designed to recirculate air over water-saturated cooling pads. Swap coolers will force air over these cooling pads, creating cooler air.
The downside to using a swamp cooler is that it will raise your garage’s humidity level. If you install a swamp cooler in your garage, you may notice humidity problems, such as mold.
Try a Window AC System
If you have a window in your garage you can install a window AC system to keep it cool. Window AC systems are similar to mini-split AC systems. They are designed with two coils that transfer heat from an indoor space to an outdoor space. Like mini-split AC systems, window AC systems don’t have any ductwork.
A window AC system will allow you to control the temperature in your garage during the summer. You can turn it on when it’s hot outside and after your garage has cooled to a comfortable temperature, you can turn off the window AC system.
Unlike a swamp cooler, a window AC system won’t lead to humidity problems.
In Conclusion
Don’t let the hot summer temperatures prevent you from using your garage. With a mini-split AC system a swamp cooler or a window AC system, you can keep it cool. None of these cooling solutions require ductwork, so they are ideal for garages.
