Does your AC system have a condenser pad?
Most condensers aren’t installed directly on the soil. Rather, they are installed on a large block consisting of concrete or a synthetic material. Known as a condenser pad, it serves several purposes.

Water Drainage
When installed a condenser pad, water will drain off and away from the condenser.
All condensers are installed outdoors. Therefore, they are naturally exposed to the elements. As water accumulates inside the condenser, some of its internal parts may rust or corrode.
A condenser pad offers a simple solution. Water will drain off and away from the condenser if it’s installed on a condenser pad.
Stability
A condenser pad also provides stability. It will stabilize the condenser so that it doesn’t sustain premature wear and tear.
Condensers contain a motor for the compressor. As a result, they tend to vibrate during use. As the compressor works its magic on the refrigerant, the motor will vibrate. These vibrations can cause the condenser to shift from its original position.
A condenser pad, however, offers stability. With its flat and hard design, it will stabilize the condenser – even if the compressor is running.
Prevents Debris
Another reason a condenser pad is important involves protection from debris.
Condensers aren’t sealed. They feature a semi-open design, which is essential to their operations. Condensers operate by releasing heat from the refrigerant. To effectively released this trapped heat, they require a semi-open design.
With their semi-open design, though, condensers can attract debris.
Leaves, pine straw, grass clippings, branches and other debris may enter the condenser. If left unchecked, some of this debris may cause the condenser to fail.
The good news is that you can prevent debris from entering the condenser by installing it on a pad. A condenser pad will keep the condenser off the ground so that it’s less vulnerable to debris.
Discourages Pests
In addition to debris, a condenser pad will discourage pests from entering the condenser.
Pests, particularly those that travel on the ground, may find their way into the condenser if it’s installed on the soil. As pests traverse across the ground, they may go into the condenser to build nests.
A condenser pad is an important part of an AC system. It provides stability while simultaneously protecting the condenser from debris and pests alike.
