Why You Should Replace Your AC System and Furnace Together

There’s no substitution for a centralized heating, ventilation and cooling (HVAC) system. Consisting of an AC system and a furnace (or heat pump), it will allow you to control the air temperature inside of your home.

AC systems and furnaces, however, often require replacing.

If you’re planning to upgrade your HVAC system, you should consider replacing the AC system and furnace together at the same time.

Packaged HVAC Systems Require It

If your home has a packaged HVAC system, you may not have the option of selectively replacing the AC system or furnace. Packaged HVAC systems are those that contain all of their equipment in a single package. They typically have an AC system and a furnace, which are located in a single unit.

For a packaged HVAC system, you’ll typically have to replace the AC system and furnace together. These components are located in a single unit. Therefore, it’s easier to replace the entire packaged HVAC system.

Furnaces Have a Built-In Blower

Another reason to replace your AC system and furnace together is that the latter has a built-in blower.

The blower is a motorized fan. In split HVAC systems, the furnace has a built-in blower that’s responsible for pulling air through the ductwork. The blower isn’t used strictly by the furnace, though; it’s used by the AC system as well.

When running your AC system, the blower will move air from your home’s indoor living spaces to the evaporator coil. Upon reaching the evaporator coil, heat will be removed from the air so that your home becomes cooler.

If there’s a problem with your furnace’s blower, your AC system won’t work. You can still replace your AC system, but blower failure means it won’t cool your home.

Save Money on Installation

There are cost-savings benefits associated with replacing your AC system and furnace together as well.

You’ll still have to purchase both pieces of equipment. With that said, you may save money on installation costs when buying them together.

Installing AC systems and furnaces requires the service of an HVAC company. The good news is that many HVAC companies offer discounts on bundled installations.

In other words, you can expect to pay less to have a new AC system and a new furnace installed at once rather than separately. A lower cost of installation is just one more reason to replace your AC system and furnace together.
